Arun - Why are we all suffering? What are we all seeking? Why are we seeking? Is what we are seeking a reality or is it our imagined end point? Is there an end point? If it is, then the end point of what? Our existence? Our suffering? Why do we seek the end point when we are not even familiar with the beginning or with what is? Is the desire of what should be, rather than experiencing what is, the cause of our suffering? Why is man not able to enjoy the present moment fully? Is it because we are always living either in the past or the future? Why do we always live in regret or hope? Why doesn't the present appeal to us? Is it because our mind is always looking for a different experience each moment? Why doesn't our mind savour each moment as it is, rather than always trying to change it? Why is everyone pulling the other guy down? Is this kind of competition healthy? What kind of a society have we created? The Monster, the so called society, is our own creation, where we preach exactly opposite of what we do. Is it possible to love thy neighbour in a society whose very foundation is hatred, based on various beliefs, religions and cults? Every religion is trying to eliminate the other, claiming their God to be the real God, their truth to be the only truth. Is truth variable? Or is it a fact? Is truth static or dynamic? Does it have an address. There are so many paths to it?
Me - You seem to be back to that question: What is the purpose of one's life?
We come to realise that something is expected of us thanks to the tribe and the norm of finding a niche in society.Purpose starts emerging with awareness of possibilities, an offshoot of the knowledge and skills one acquires. Knowledge is invariably the cornerstone of dissonance in as much as perpetually throwing up options of what can be, or could be or should be. And so one seeks. Mostly what is sought is tangible. To fulfl a temporal desire. Or just for learning.
We are just prisoners of our minds. We keep extending its domain through knowledge and it's increased awareness multiplies the possibilities of temporal achievement that keep one befuddled about ones purpose in life. If one has the capacity to create something original, one is likely to feel satiated. Else one is only validating someone elses experience, be it the tenets of religion or philosophy or equalling and bettering others tangible achievements.
The key to equanimity is the acceptance of the reach of ones capabilities. If you are not a creator then accept that you will always follow and run with the herd. Just existence. Improving the tangible quality of ones life incrementally.
Let knowledge acquisition be guided by the need to know. No expectancies creating seeking. For suffering is but dashed expectation. Know not, seek not,and thou shalt hurt not. If you actually know what it is you wish to achieve but it seems a selfish aim, then you'll keep suffering as the accepted norms of societal behavior dictate running with the herd.
Truth is relative. The absolute part of it only relates to behavioral conformity in society's lens. In the cell of your mind you are free to be who you are. Its the friction at the interfaces that causes suffering. If your purpose conflicts with your world, recalibrate your purpose or, change your world. The middle path is these questions and suffering.
Accept who you are and that what is was meant to be. You may still have regrets about the past and hopes for the future, but they will be tempered by inevitability. So whats wrong with the helplessness of being. Thats similar to the state that triggers off lines of inquiry into the purpose of life at regular intervals.
So accept what is and abstain from asking the whys!
